Blue Ridge After Rain
Chinese Splashed-Color Landscape
A mountain in poured cobalt and green, with the paper left bare for cloud. Framed and ready to hang.
The color was poured and tilted rather than brushed, so the ridge has the soft, wet edge of a hillside seen through rain. A few lines of the brush pull out the summit, a house and a boat, and the rest is left to the paper. From across a room it is simply a bar of blue; up close it keeps giving.
It sits behind glass in a slim gilt frame with a woven gray silk mat. Over a sofa or a sideboard it wants about seven feet of wall and nothing else on it.
Of everything here this is the piece designers ask about first. It works with pale walls and with dark ones, and with almost any wood.
