Pale Jade Coiled Dragon

Carving in the archaic manner

A coiled creature with a round eye and a pierced center, carved from pale green stone with a russet streak running through it. Small enough to hold.

The form is the coiled 'pig-dragon' of archaic jade: a thick C-shape with a snout at one end and a gap cut almost through at the other. The stone is pale celadon with a band of russet that the carver has left where it falls. The surfaces are soft and rounded, and it is pleasant to handle.

Stand it on a desk or a windowsill where light comes through the thinner parts. It is the smallest thing on the site and one of the most satisfying.

Offered as a carving in the archaic manner. We describe the stone as pale hardstone and do not certify it as nephrite; we make no claim about age.
