Gilt-Bronze Wrathful Deity
Figure in the Himalayan manner
A many-armed wrathful deity in gilt bronze, dancing within a flaming mandorla on a lotus base. The piece that stops people at the door.
The figure stands in the warrior's lunge, its arms fanned out with their attributes, on a bed of prostrate figures. Behind it the flames of the aureole are cast in openwork, so light passes through them. The gilding is warm and slightly worn at the high points, which is what gives the surface its depth.
Lit from one side on a console, in a niche, or on a plinth at the end of a room, it reads from across the house. It is a piece for a hallway or a study rather than a bedroom.
Offered as a decorative figure in the Himalayan manner. We describe the casting and the gilding as we find them and make no representation as to age or origin.
