Chinese Flower Painting on a Gold Ground

Plum, wisteria, chrysanthemum and peony on a gold ground, folding across six panels. The one piece here that can stand on the floor.

Each panel carries a flowering branch and a column of calligraphy, and the branches run over the hinges so the screen reads as one long garden rather than six pictures. The ground is a gold-toned paper that throws light back into a room in the evening and goes quiet by day.

Open it flat behind a sofa and it becomes a wall of color. Fold it to three panels and it turns a corner into a reading spot, or stands at the end of a hallway. It is also the easiest way we know to fix a room that has no art wall at all.

The frame is black lacquered wood with brass-tone hinges. It folds for shipping and arrives in one crate.
