Warrior with a Spear

Chinese figure painting

An armored warrior in mid-stride, spear raised, blue ribbons flying, painted in the manner of the opera stage. Framed in dark red lacquer with a pink silk mat.

The figure is drawn in the bright, flat colors of stage costume: blue, gold, green and white, with the ribbons of the headdress streaming behind. The rest of the sheet is left bare, so the movement carries. A signature and seal sit at the lower right.

The frame is unusual and part of the effect: dark red lacquer with rounded corners and a wide rose-pink silk mat. It suits a hallway or a study, and it is a good match for dark wood and for lacquer.
