Bronze Tripod Censer on Animal-Mask Feet

Censer of tripod form

A taller censer with a flared rim, two squared upright handles and three legs cast as animal masks. The most sculptural of the three bronzes.

The body is a deep cup with a raised band at the waist, on three legs that end in animal heads with curled ears. The handles are square in section and stand straight up. The surface is a lighter golden brown than the other two, with a soft sheen.

Because it is taller and more upright, it works on a shelf or a side table where you see it at eye level. Put it with books.

The base carries a round two-character mark, shown in the inset. We describe it as a mark and not as a date.
